On attending Barcamp Hong Kong 08 – Part 1

Monday, September 8th, 2008

This is my second year attending [tag]Barcamp[/tag] [tag]Hong Kong[/tag]. Times really flies. Last year it was at Yahoo office but this year the venue change to Time Warner office at Tai Koo Place. I really like the office. Spectacular seaview and awesome pantry.

The registration counter. The only thing about the registration is the security guard took our ID number. Are they going to safeguard the information or will it leak out. I am worried.

Check out the view.

The people start to gather to check out the board. They want to know who put what topic up for the day.

Everybody get together to introduce them and get at free T-shirts. Sponsored by dookaz.com

Hong Kong… you need to be bilingual. Belle from beanbox.com is doing the english and Ben from Hkday.net was doing the cantonese version.

P1010065

The place was jammed packed. I am guessing…there should be above 250 attendees.

Adobe and dookaz.com sponsoring different themes T-shirts for $20Hkd. I bought one…too good to pass on.

Well…I am not that impressed. Probably I don’t know what I am doing.

This is what I get when I went to hongkongphooey blog.

Next, when I was updating my blog via Chrome. Suddenly, it tells me my userid and database password mis-match. I close the Chrome immediately and went back to Firexfox 3.

On Webwednesday – 3rd Sept

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

That night guest was Rebecca MacKinnon talking about creative commons. Something that I know very little about.

The place was packed again… A lot more ang moh than locals.

I met some news friends.

Kelly Dakin from Moni-media.net.

Thks Ed from Dookaz for taking the pix.

Nothing much I can say about this creative commons. Will there be a wide adoption on the platform, probably not in the near future. It will take a lot education to get the message in HK. This is my thought.

On a weekend at Tianhe, Guangzhou

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Went up to Tianhe district, Guangzhou for the weekends. This time I took a non-stop train from Hung Hom station to East Guangzhou Station. The price is $190Hkd one way. You can check out the fare and time schedule here.

Condoms…Wow…NO need to pick it up at 7-11. I like this hotel. This is what I called…taking care of clients needs. Heehheee….

Some slides on the hotel – Yu Tong Hotel. Well, the price $300.00 Rmb. This kind of price u will never be able to get it for a 3 Star Hotel in KL. The room is spacious, free internet and plus a breakfast…What more do u want???

P1000994
Traffic Jam – Have not seen it for a long time.

P1000990
Coming in all the way to Guangzhou to have Starbucks…I know…I have a problem.

P1010012
Went to the Book City. This place is packed and you have to wait in a long line to pay. I don’t see this in HK. Probably during the yearly Book Fair. This Book City is open all year long.

Me…in front of the hotel…
