Time flies, this is my second christmas in HK. Same as last year, we venture out on Tsim Sha Tsui east and head to Nathan Road. Last year we took a big round but this year we just want to hang out at Nathan Road.
We went into Miramar Mall on Nathan Road because we want to buy some stuff at Muji. On the ground floor, a small band churning out all those christmas tunes.
Quite a lot people on this side of the road because of the Christmas lights decoration.
Through out Nathan Road, you can all these small gathering singing Christmas song….
Behind me is another groups which is near Yau Ma Tei MTR station. This is where we end our journey and heads home.
I am blessed and thanks the Big Kahuna for letting me hang out in HK. New Year is coming up and I doubt I will go out there to take picture on fireworks. Last years, the fireworks last about 5 minutes and we hang out there for almost 3 hours waiting in the cold….
We went bumming aroung Festival Walk @ Kowloon Tong over the weekend. I like to hang around this mall because it has the same feel like 1U in KL and like Beverly Center in LA.
Took some pix on the Christmas decoration…
They claimed it’s the tallest Christmas in Hong Kong and maybe in Asia….
Well, I went to a wine tasting workshop organize by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. It’s a one hour talk and the time is quite short for me because I did not have time absorbing most of the stuff….
They open two types of wine. The chardonnay and the shiraz red wine.
After testing the drink, this is what everyone should write down….
The speaker…Kevin Tang.
As we were leaving the Heritage Museum, took a shot a the sunset.
One of the last event of the year and I thought I should stop-by. The guest was Chris from wanta.net. He talk about his journey from click to brick & mortar.
He started sell condoms and other sex stuff on the Net. Started early 2000 and still around in 2008. He shared some of his experience which I think re-affirmed the HK e-commerce environment.
Now, he complement his online store with a retail store across Times Square. A very high foot traffic area and high rental, too.
Let me put some pointers that I think I learned from him….
1. Banner advertising – be very selective. they want a lot money from you but will never bring the result you wants.
2. C.O.D. payment – in HK, you need it.
3. Addresses – if you are selling adult toys, your customers will not give the exact address. they want your delivery guy to call them when you are on that particular street.
4. Retail Store – at one point or another, you need to have a retail store in place.
5. Search Engine – in HK, yahoo is the predominantly search engine used by chinese users.
6. HK Consumers – they still want to feel and touch before buying.
Well…why I put such a long speech? Because I do think there is a space for e-commerce in HK. I can’t believe Hk is all about bricks and mortars. There must be some thing for the internet people.
