What does ‘Removal’ mean. A sale is a sale. But removal…I don’t know.

If you guys knows what it mean, please enlighten me. I have an inquiring mind.

On moving my phone from PCCW to China Mobile

After a year of using PCCW 3G Web & Talk, I decided to give China Mobile GPRS a try. It cost a little more than PCCW but I think it worth a try and it’s contract free.

For $110.00 Hkd, I can use unlimited GPRS/EDGE and Wifi. Whereas, If I signed a new contract with PCCW, the price is $98.00, 100mb GPRS, Unlimited Wifi and I have to sign a 18 month contract.

PCCW does have it pros.

PCCW Pros
1. Voice quality is Superb. The reception is very good.
2. They stated GPRS but you actually get 3G and sometime HSDPA quality on the data. So, it’s much fast than China Mobile.
3. They have one of the largest Wifi Hotspot in HK. From Starbucks, Pacific Coffee, 7-11 to MTR.

PCCW Cons
1. Customer support. Worst. On the phone directory, the first level will not indicate which button to press for a real life customer rep.

2. Wifi – Even though they have the largest Wifi Hotspot but in Hong Kong, I find Wifi is quite irrelevant. Would you sit on the floor of the MTR stations or stand outside of 7-11, take your laptop or smartphone out, search for wifi connection(not counting the time needed for window to boot-up) and goes through multiple step just to log-in and check email or google maps?

China Mobile Pros

1. Unlimited GPRS/EDGE and Wifi. You can be on MTR, bus, taxi, in a conference room, taking a dump or anywhere. You are connected. I don’t need to worry about maxing out my 60MB or 100MB.

China Mobile Cons

1. Voice Quality – it’s a known fact their voice quality is low. Probably they don’t have that many communication towers to bounce the signal. So, if you are standing behind a lamp post. You might not get the signal. At this point, I can live with the poor reception.

Ok..so far. This is what I have on China Mobile. I have not called their customer support on the phone, yet. So, can’t comment on that. Will update this post when I have more info.

On Guy Kawasaki @ Web Wednesday

I have not been to Web Wednesday since they moved the venue to Volar. But this was a special day. Guy Kawasaki is stopping-by to hang around.

P1030570
Guy Kawasaki.

Read one of his book (How to drive your competiton crazy) long long time ago. I just want to be there. I will never get a chance to see him…again…ever.

P1030568

My take on Mr. Kawasaki. Well, He is Evangelist first, Marketer second, VC third and somewhere between Marketer and VC is a Writer.

Why I said that. When he talk about VC biz, the word he churned out was just depressing. It’s almost like the VC biz was bust.

But when someone ask about his ghost writer on Twitter. His eyes lit up and give a long Evalangical statement on that.

Then somewhere in between he manages to squeeze in alltop.com. That is a good Marketer.

P1030585

Overall, I enjoyed his talk. I left earlier because I absorbed enough. Too bad…I did not take a picture with him. Hong Kong has been for me. Meeting so many people that I will never ever dream off and thanks Napoleon for getting this together.

If you want to watch the entire talk, Belle has a recording here

One of my favorite tech event for the year. Every year I would hang around and see what new stuff I would learn. This year its no different. I came to learn and take picture.

I have always like their pantry. The coffee machine that churn out cappuccino, latte and espresso.

_MG_4877 (Small)
I like their talk. Leon (www.lifehack.org) and Greg (www.anobii.com) Lesson learned on mentoring start-up.

_MG_4908 (Small)
Kin (www.lakoo.cn) talk about mobile games in China. This round…I understand a little better on the overall mobile game in China because he presented it in Cantonese.

I always thought there is money to be made in mobile games and have always wondered how to break into this market. But I don’t have the programming capability. I can only become a spectator on this one.

Aaron (www.jadetower.com) on what is google wave is all about.

Bill (www.billibala.com) share about being an entrepreneur.

Save this one for last because need to do some rambling. Alex Kong (www.akasas.com). A very successful malaysian entrepreneur who started asiatravelmart.com and afoofa.com came in to do a presentation on his latest venture.

I left after five minutes because I can’t take a Jaguh Kampung doing his self promotion. He said…’Some of you might know or have seen me in CNN, Businessweek…blah…blah. I have been awarded numerous award….blah…blah…My product are use by MAS, AirAsia…blah…blah). Can’t take this Jaguh Kampung bullshit, man….

In malaysia, I would never be able to meet this guy. He network with the ministers, datuks and tan sris. But in Hong Kong, we are in the same network circle…go figure…hehee…I probably be seeing him again this wednesday because Guy Kawasaki is coming into town.

If he has come in by saying…’My name is so and so…I have developed many internet product and have been some what successful.. in some and this is my latest product…I want to share with you and hopefully spread the word about my latest product’…wouldn’t that be nicer…shit…I would not be rambling so much.

Anyway, I had fun at Barcamp. Thanks the organizers and sponsors. Some slides below for your enjoyment.
