On attending DBS forex seminar

I went to a seminar organized by Capital Weekly magazine, DBS bank and M-finance.net. Lately, the banks in hong kong are pushing quite aggressively on offering forex trading. DBS has an advertisement on the Standard newspaper almost everyday hyping about forex trading.

DBS Bank hk.dbs.com

I was quite surprise at DBS bank, such a large banking institution offering a sub-par product. The spread on most to the pairs are 8pips. Ex. Gbp/Usd is 8pips spread. Market maker like fxcm.com and forex.com are offering better spread than DBS bank. My favorite market maker Migfx.ch is offering 3 pips spread on Gbp/Usd. What is the problem here???

Another thing, their charting software sucks. I think the only competitive edge they can offer is the DBS brand. That it. Other than that, I don’t know how they can rope in con those aunty and uncles to trade forex.

The Ceo is a very good speaker. I am sure he incurred many battles scar on the forex trading. He does understand the forex trading environment. The next question to ask is – ‘Is he a good trader, too?’. Something I will never knows.

He offered four golden rules for entry. 1) Sell on Resistance 2) Buy on Support 3) Sell on Breakout of Support 4) Buy on Breakout of Resistance. The question is – Is your line of Resistance and my line of Resistance the same?

I need to poke fun on this magazine slogan. It’s ‘For the Rich and Powerful’. I am wondering if Mr. Li Ka Shing or Mr. Donald Tsang read this magazine. Check out Business Week slogan ‘Smarter, Faster, Richer’.

On attending Agel Grand Opening

I was invited by a fellow malaysian to attend Agel grand opening at Jockey Club Auditorium, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I was quite surprise on the turnout. I always thought hong kong mlm industry is not that robust. People will stay 10 feet from you the moment u said u are in the mlm industry.

agel_1

This is the view from outside of the auditorium.

agel_2

Everybody dressed up in suit. I was in jeans.

agel_3

Couples guys I met over there. I don’t know who are the two ang moh. The one on the far right was with Canon. Probably quite new at Canon because his biz card was glue together. The other two did not give any biz card but the one on the far left said he is with HP. You know..lah. Giving biz card out in mlm get together will get u unwanted call all the time. So, they are smart guys.

agel_4

There were about 800 to 900 attendees. As I was listening to their presentation, I realized Agel is not re-inventing any new. It’s just re-packaging the products from tablet/pill form to gel form. That is all. Is the marketing plan impressive? I don’t think so. The American’s marketing plan is always a tough plan. The house always win. The distributors/users are always the consumers.

One thing I am impress is how fast they growth Agel. Does this mean mlm distribution model is a proven model? I am not saying being a distributor. In this model, u hv to be the house because the house always win. Distributors can come and goes but the company will always be around.

Sms Seminar

I went to [tag]Sms seminar[/tag] organized by [tag]Global Surf Sdn. Bhd[/tag]. It’s not a free seminar. It’s Rm 180 but it well worth it because you get breakfast, lunch (buffet lunch) and tea break.

sms_seminar

There are 3 parts to the seminars. The first part is called Reverse Billing. It’s for those whose has some brilliant content idea and you don’t want to build the infrastructure from scratch. You can ride on their platform because that will lower your cost of entry into the market. But they will take a cut on the profit.

If you ride on their platform, you probably have to fork out Rm 20,000 to 30,000. If you build from scratch, it’s cost about Rm 200,000 and take 6 months to 1 years (2 to 3 months to get MCMC license, 3 to 6 months for telcos to setup on their end) for the platform to be functional.

Next, the telcos will get their part of the profit first – Maxis (40%), Digi (30%), Celcom (50%), Tm Touch (50%). Whatever profit left, you will have to share it with Global Surf.

The second part is Corporate SMS. They have a front-end web-based software that they sell (you can become their reseller if you want) to enable companies to facilitate information to customer or using it to do promotion. Another example, It’s very useful for insurance agents who have a large database of customer and the customer can send SMS to check the expiration of their insurance policy, the agents can send out reminder notices, birthday greeting and etc.

In the [tag]milaga.com[/tag] scenario, I can use it to entice prospective forex traders to open live account and maybe use it just to disseminate forex information or trade signal. This will depend on whether I will get any marketing dollar from [tag]umeforex[/tag]. Otherwise, I can only imagine about it.

The last one is One Stop Entertainment – It’s a pre-paid sms card cost Rm 20 that comes with contents. It’s marketed in Mlm fashion and it’s not for me because Mlm is not my thing. For now, their content is target to a young audience.

All in all, it’s an eye opening experience. I wanted to do the Sms thing during the ringtones craze but now, I am not that hot about it. If I want to pump Rm 20k to Rm 30k to an SMS platform, I might as well use this capital in the forex market. My percentage of gain is much higher.
